The International Scientific Conference in Turkmenistan on Healthcare, Education and Sports

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan (Ashgabat) hosted the International exhibition and scientific conference «Healthcare, Education and Sports in the Era of the Revival of the New Epoch of the Powerful State» on October 10-11, 2022. The conference was timed to coincide with the Day of Healthcare Workers and the Medical Industry of Turkmenistan. The opening ceremony was attended by members of the Government, Heads of the accredited diplomatic missions and international organizations, Heads of medical research and clinical centres, representatives of ministries and departments, educational institutions. The delegates of the conference heard the address by the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdymukhamedov.

Within the framework of the conference, held in the hybrid format, Turkmen doctors congratulated scientists, high-ranking representatives of the spheres of healthcare, education and sports of Turkmenistan, Russia, Germany, China, Uzbekistan and a number of other countries, The European Office of WHO and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

As a part of the business programme of the exhibition, conferences, seminars devoted to basic and applied research, round tables, master classes on the most prominent topics of medicine were held.

The Technology Centre of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan held 13 sections of the conference, 7 out of which were devoted to medicine: «Prevention and control of non-infectious diseases», «Prevention and control of infectious diseases», «Protection of mother and child health», «Surgical diseases», «Public health and epidemiology», «Digital medicine» and «Genomic medicine».

The scientific programme of the «Genomic medicine» section was aimed at discussion of three main topics: «Diagnostics and prevention of hereditary and congenital diseases in the era of genomic medicine», «Genomic technologies in various fields of medicine» and «Biotechnology: science and practice».

The employees of the Research Centre for Medical Genetics took an active part in the work of the section:

  • Sergey Kutsev, Holder of an Advanced Doctorate in Medical Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of RCMG gave a report «Genetics of Orphaned Diseases».
  • Alexander Polyakov, Holder of an Advanced Doctorate in Biological Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Head of the DNA-diagnostics laboratory at RCMG gave his report «Diagnostic Programmes of the DNA-diagnostics Laboratory at RCMG».
  • Elena Dadali, Holder of an Advanced Doctorate in Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of scientific advisory department at RCMG gave a report on the topic: «The Role of a Geneticist in the Era of Genomic Technologies».

The International Conference contributed to the development of scientific and practical cooperation and collaboration among the participating countries in order to develop modern medical-genetic technologies, improve medical care and scientific research process in medical genetics.
