The All-Russian School Devoted to the Diagnostics and Treatment of Cystic Fibrosis Gathered More than 1000 People in Stavropol

The All-Russian Cystic Fibrosis School with international participation «New Horizons in Diagnostics and Treatment of Cystic Fibrosis: Guarantees and Barriers» took place in Stavropol on September 15-16, 2022.

The event was supported by the Charity Fund «Ostrova» and the Journal «Pulmonology».

The school was attended by 1,023 people.

The school was opened by Sergey Kutsev, director of the Research Centre for Medical Genetics, chief external expert in medical genetics of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Sergey Avdeev, director of the pulmonology and respiratory medicine clinic at the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenova of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation, chief external pulmonologist of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.  Experts noted that the school is held in the year of the 10th anniversary of the creation of the register on cystic fibrosis of the Russian Federation, which plays a huge role in the organization of medical assistance to the population, and the course due mass-start of targeted therapy in our country will lead to an increase in the life expectancy of patients.

Presentations were made by 65 speakers from 9 foreign countries (Belarus - 21, Ukraine - 16, Kazakhstan - 14, Uzbekistan - 9, Armenia - 2, Azerbaijan - 1, Bulgaria - 1, Georgia - 1). During the school’s operation 26 symposiums were held, participants listened to about 100 presentations.

The staff of the Research Centre for Medical Genetics gave 40 reports devoted to modern approaches to diagnostics, therapy and dynamic observation of patients with cystic fibrosis. In addition, the employees of RCMG shared their experience of using CFTR modulators, organization of cystic fibrosis centres and multidisciplinary team.

The vast majority of the congress participants were delegates from Moscow and Moscow Oblast (340), North-Caucasus Federal District (283), Volga Federal District (169), Saint Petersburg and the Krasnodar Krai. 

The school was also attended by specialists assisting patients with cystic fibrosis (paediatricians, general practitioners, pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, endocrinologists, geneticists, nutritionists, clinical pharmacologists, microbiologists, physiotherapists (kinesitherapists), scientific staff.
