The XII Congress of the Russian Society of Ophthalmology was held in early December

One of the major scientific and educational events on ophthalmology - the XII Congress of Russian Society of Ophthalmology was held on December 1-5, 2020. The Congress discussed the following: organization of ophthalmological care, medical and social issues, personnel policy, morbidity, blindness and low vision, rehabilitation, modern diagnostic methods in ophthalmology, inflammatory, infectious and allergic eye diseases, glaucoma, refractive disorders, lens diseases, corneal diseases, vitreoretinal pathology, neuro-ophthalmology and oculomotor disorders, pediatric ophthalmology, and genetic aspects in ophthalmology.

A satellite symposium "Gene therapy - New Era in Ophthalmology" was held as a part of the Congress. V.V. Kadyshev, Candidate of Medical Science, and A.V. Marakhonov, Candidate of Biological Science, Senior Researchers of the FSBI RCMG Genetic Epidemiology Laboratory (headed by Prof. R. Zinchenko) made presentations "The role of medical genetics in ophthalmology" (V. Kadyshev), "Molecular aspects of gene therapy" (A. Marakhonov) and "Molecular genetic diagnosis and gene therapy of hereditary ophthalmopathology" (V. Kadyshev). The presentations aroused high interest of the audience and a lively discussion. The number of attendees of this symposium was 594.
