Izhevsk Held a Conference Dedicated to Bronchiectasis

The scientific conference «Bronchiectasis and...» dedicated to the organization of diagnostics of diseases accompanied by bronchiectasis was held in Izhevsk, the capital of the Udmurt Republic, on February 3-4, 2023.

The event was organized by the Ministry of Healthcare of the Udmurt Republic, the All-Russian public organization «Russian Society of Medical Genetics», NMRC for Pulmonology, The Research Centre for Medical Genetics, The Scientific Research Clinical Institute for Childhood of Moscovskaya Oblast with the informational support of the journal «Pulmonology» and the Charity Fund «Ostrova».

The main themes of the conference were:

• Differential diagnostics of bronchiectasis of different etiology
• Diagnostics of cystic fibrosis
• Diagnostics of primary ciliary dyskinesia
• Microbiological diagnostics of the main microbial pathogens of the respiratory tract
• Mucolytic therapy for bronchiectasis
• Antibacterial therapy for bronchiectasis
• Targeted cystic fibrosis therapy
• Respiratory support
• Nutritional support for patients with cystic fibrosis
• Substitution therapy with pancreatic enzymes of patients with pancreatic deficiency
• Kinesitherapy for bronchiectasis;
• Psychological support of patients
• The role of patient registers in improving the quality of care

The conference featured 21 reports from 13 speakers, as well as symposiums and round tables devoted to diagnostics, therapy and organization of medical care in cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis.

Within the framework of the event, a School for parents of patients with cystic fibrosis was held, where specialists told about the possibility of receiving targeted therapy, topical issues of kinesitherapy in patients with cystic fibrosis.

Olga Poletayeva, clinical psychologist, representative of the working group on mental health of the European Cystic Fibrosis Society, touched upon the issues of emotional burnout of parents and psychological support of patients with chronic lung diseases.

Elena Kondratyeva, professor, Holder of an Advanced Doctorate in Medical Sciences, head of the scientific clinical department for cystic fibrosis at RCMG, gave reports on the diagnostics of primary ciliary dyskinesia, antibacterial, mucolytic and targeted therapy in cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis, and nutritional support for cystic fibrosis patients.

Elena Zhekayte, PhD, senior researcher of scientific clinical department for cystic fibrosis at RCMG, focused on antibacterial therapy in cystic fibrosis at the outpatient stage, substitution therapy with pancreatic enzymes, and also spoke about the organization of measures to prevent cross-infection among patients.

Specialists from various disciplines, including pulmonologists, therapists, paediatricians, microbiologists, kinesitherapists, psychologists, nutritionists and others consulted patients with cystic fibrosis on the final day of the conference.
