RCMG employees are involved in the development of biobanks network in Russia

In recent years, the scientific field of biobanking has been rapidly developing in Russia. Over the past decade, a large number of biobanks have been created, ranging from collections of human biological materials to collections of environmental samples.

The National Association of Biobanks and Biobanking Specialists (NASBIO) was created in December 2018. Its goals are to: 1) unite professionals and research centers in creating and developing a network of biobanks in Russia; 2) provide expertise in biobanking; 3) carry out research projects using the biobanks infrastructure; 4) facilitate integration of Russian biobanks into the global network. The NASBIO founders hope that Association will facilitate the further development of biobanks in Russia, which is essential for the success of national biomedical, pharmaceutical and biotechnological research.

A co-author of the article, O.P. Balanovsky, Doctor of biological science, Professor of RAS, Chief Researcher of the Human Population Genetics Laboratory (Headed by Prof. E.V. Balanovska), represents the Biobank of Northern Eurasia participating in NASBIO, which is based on the collection of DNA samples of indigenous peoples of Northern Eurasia, which has been collected by the FSBI RCMG Human Population Genetics laboratory for more than 20 years.
