Proceedings of the All-Russian Multimedia Conference "Bioethics and Genetics: Challenges of the XXI Century" were published

Leading scientists from various fields of science, state authorities and the Russian Orthodox Church discussed ethical issues related to the development of genetic technology at the All-Russian Multimedia Conference "Bioethics and Genetics: Challenges of the XXI Century", which was held at the site of the press center of the International News Agency "Russia Today".

The Conference brought together geneticists, biologists, specialists in bioethics and law, philosophers and educators, religious figures, and representatives of state authorities.

Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, opened the Conference.

"Bearing in mind the experience of mankind, the key, if not the first, attention must be given to issues of social-humanitarian knowledge and all the problems related to ethics and legal regulation," Valery Falkov said.

During the conference, experts discussed issues related to genetic testing, ethical challenges of applying human genome editing technologies, development of biobanking in the Russian Federation, ethics of mass screening for hereditary diseases, and storage and access to genetic data.

More than 1700 specialists from all over Russia and abroad joined the Conference "Bioethics and Genetics: Challenges of the XXI Century".  Audience of the broadcast had an opportunity to ask questions to the speakers.

Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation supported the event. The Russian Society of Medical Geneticists, Association of Medical Geneticists, Academician N.P. Bochkov Research Centre for Medical Genetics, Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University organized it.
