A conference dedicated to bronchiectasis was held in Voronezh

On June 23, 2022, the conference "Bronchiectasis: cystic fibrosis and not only ..." was held in Voronezh.

The goal of the project is to organize the diagnostic process of diseases associated with bronchiectasis in order to provide adequate medical care to patients in the regions of the Russian Federation.

The organizers of the conference were:

The conference was opened by Sergey Avdeev, Chief freelance pulmonologist of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation, Director of the Clinic for Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine of the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University, Head of the Department of Pulmonology, Head of the Clinical Department of the Research Institute of Pulmonology of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Elena Kondratieva, Head of the Scientific and Clinical Department of Cystic Fibrosis of the Research Centre for Medical Genetics, Professor.

The experts noted the need for earlier diagnosis of diseases accompanied by bronchiectasis, the organization of rational antibacterial and mucolytic therapy to improve the health status, quality and life expectancy of patients. Doctors were informed that clinical guidelines on cystic fibrosis have now been created, clinical guidelines on primary ciliary dyskinesia are ready, and clinical guidelines on bronchiectasis are under discussion.

Within the framework of the conference, presentations were made by Elena Kondratyeva, Head of the Scientific and Clinical Department of Cystic Fibrosis of the Research Centre for Medical Genetics, Professor, Anna Voronkova, the leading researcher of the Scientific and Clinical Department of Cystic Fibrosis of the Research Centre for Medical Genetics, Ph.D., Tatyana Maksimycheva, senior researcher of the Scientific and Clinical Department of Cystic Fibrosis of the Research Centre for Medical Genetics, Ph.D., Elena Amelina, Head of the Laboratory of Cystic Fibrosis of the Research Institute of Pulmonology of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia, Ph.D., Artem Lyamin, microbiologist, Ph.D. (Samara), Olga Poletaeva, clinical psychologist (St. Petersburg), Natalya Kostina, chief freelance pulmonologist of the Voronezh Region Health Department, doctor of the highest category, Ph.D., Ludmila Ulyanova, Professor of the Department of Faculty and Palliative Pediatrics of the Voronezh State Medical University Named After N. N. Burdenko, MD.

The conference participants discussed the organization of care for patients with cystic fibrosis in the Voronezh region.

56 doctors took part in the conference in person.

Yulia Zaitseva, Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of the "Ostrova" Foundation, Director of the "Organization of Assistance to Patients with Cystic Fibrosis" Association in St. Petersburg, coordinated the work of the "School of Cystic Fibrosis" that was organized for parents and patients with cystic fibrosis, where speakers shared their long standing experience of collaboration with doctors.

- The lack of an outpatient care for patients has a negative impact on compliance with the requirements for diagnostics to assess the effectiveness and safety of therapy - said Yulia Zaitseva.

A school for patients with cystic fibrosis was organized in frame of the conference, on June 24, 2022. Participants of this project could consult patients with cystic fibrosis according to a pre-agreed schedule at the Regional Children's Hospital No. 2 in Voronezh. 13 patients received consultations, blood samples were obtained from 5 people for DNA diagnosis of cystic fibrosis, samples for microbiological examination were obtained from 13 people.

Professor Elena Kondratyeva, Head of the Scientific and Clinical Department of Cystic Fibrosis of Research Centre for Medical Genetics, met with Sergey Avdeev, the chief physician of the Regional Children's Hospital No. 2 in Voronezh. They discussed the organization of outpatient care for patients and hospital-replacing technologies. An agreement on joint work in the field of organizing the outpatient stage of patient observation, taking into account the start of targeted therapy, was reached between the Scientific and Clinical Department of Cystic Fibrosis of the Research Centre for Medical Genetics and the Regional Children's Hospital No. 2 in Voronezh.

The project continues its development. Similar conferences are planned in Vladivostok, Ufa and Barnaul this year.
