Graduated from the scientific and scientific-pedagogical faculty of the Moscow Medical Academy named after I.M. Sechenov (now the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov) in 2006 with medical degree. Svetlana defended her thesis “Evaluation of transfection of the VEGF121 gene into human multipotent stromal cells by non-viral methods” in the specialty of genetics in 2011 supervised by Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences N.P. Bochkov. From 2007 to 2018, she worked in the Laboratory of the Mutagenesis of the Research Centre for Medical Genetics, since 2019 she has headed the laboratory of Genome Editing.
S.A. Smirnikhina is author of more than 110 scientific papers, including the 4th edition of the textbook "Clinical Genetics", ed. by N.P. Bochkov. S.A. Smirnikhina is an assistant professor at the Department of Postgraduate and Residency at the Research Centre for Medical Genetics and teaches a course on genome editing.
Smirnikhina S.A. awarded a diploma of Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations in 2017 for perfect work and high achievements in professional activity.
Research interests: the development of mutation correction methods using genome editing, induced pluripotent stem cells as object for gene therapy, the study of the pathogenesis of chronic myeloid leukemia.
