Research Centre for Medical Genetics
She graduated from the Medical Faculty of I.M. Sechenov 1st Moscow Medical Institute in 1980, passed in-patient residency in the "Medical Genetics" in 1982. She worked as a junior, senior, and leading researcher at the Clinical Genetics Laboratory between 1982 and 1990, then as a scientific secretary between 1990 and 2007, and since 2007 to the present as a deputy director for scientific work of the FSBI Research Centre for Medical Genetics (previously called the Institute of Medical Genetics of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, All-Union Scientific Medical Genetics Centre under the USSR AMS, Federal State Budgetary Institution Research Centre for Medical Genetics of Russian Academy of Medical Sciences). She defended her thesis "Characteristics and genetic analysis of clinical polymorphism of von Willebrand disease" in 1986, and her doctoral thesis "Modern methodological and ethical problems of medical and genetic counseling in Russia." in 2005.
Her research areas: study of genetic causes of clinical polymorphism in hematological hereditary diseases, principles of preventive genetic registers organization, analysis of ethical and legal problems of medical genetics, evaluation of effectiveness of medical genetic counseling and analysis of factors affecting it. Author of 148 scientific works, including 10 chapters in monographs.
V.L. Izhevskaya is a winner of the RAMS nominal prize named after DAVIDENKOV S.N. for the best scientific work in the field of medical genetics (2004), she was awarded a diploma of the 1st degree of the “Ecology of Russia From century to century” X International Journalist Competition in the Bioethics nomination (2005), the diploma and grant of the Regional Public Foundation for Promotion of Russian Medicine in the field of Preventive Medicine (2008), the Certificate of Merit of the RAMS Presidium (2009), the Medal of Honor, S.N. Davidenkov Russian Society of Medical Geneticists (2015). V.L. Izhevskaya is a member of the expert group of the Department of Health, Committee on Bioethics of the Council of Europe, chair of the Russian Medical Geneticists Society, member of the central council of the Vavilov Society of Genetics and Breeders, and an executive secretary of the editorial board of the Medical Genetics journal.
