Sergei I. Kutsev, Doctor of medical science, Corresponding member of RAS, is the Director of FSBI Research Centre for Medical Genetics, Head of the Chair of Molecular and Cell Genetics in FSBEI HE Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University under the Russian Ministry of Health, Chief external expert in medical genetics of the Russian Ministry of Health, Chairperson of the Russian Ministry of Health Ethics Committee, President of the Russian Medical Geneticists Association.

He graduated from the Medical Faculty of Rostov Order of People’s Friendship Medical Institute (ROPFMI) in 1988. Having graduated from the institute in 1988, he took a post-graduate course. His main office from 1991 to 2000 was an assistant, then from 2000 to 2006 he was an Associate Professor, and from 2006 to August 2011 - a head of the Medical Genetics Laboratory at Rostov State Medical University (RostSMU). Concurrently, since 2006, he has been an Associate Professor and then a Professor at the Genetics and Laboratory Genetics course at the Physicians’ Enhancement Faculty at Rostov State Medical University.

Having moved to Moscow in 2011, he headed a Chair at Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University and the Mutagenesis Laboratory (part-time) at the FSBI Research Centre for Medical Genetics of RAS. From 2012 to 2015, he held an office of the Deputy Director for the FSBI RCMG. From 20 May 2015 – an Acting Director, and then – the Director of the Research Centre for Medical Genetics.

His research areas include clinical picture, diagnosis and treatment of hereditary diseases, genetics of oncohematological diseases, role of viruses in carcinogenesis, neonatal screening, and arrangement of medical genetic service. Author of more than 250 publications, 17 manuals and recommendations.

Kutsev S.I. is a Deputy Chairman of the Dissertation Council D001.016.01 based on FSBI RCMG, member of the Dissertation Councils D 208.072.04 and D208.072.016 based on FSBI HE Pirogov RRNMUI of the Russian Ministry of Health, member of Presidium of Board of the Russian Society of Medical Geneticists (RSMG), member of European LeukemiaNet (ELN). He was awarded a diploma and a medal named after Davidenkov S.N. of the Russian Society of Medical Geneticists (2010), a diploma of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation (2005). In 2014, by the order of the Minister of Health, he was appointed a chief external expert in medical genetics at the Ministry of Health of Russia, and in 2018, he was appointed a Chairman of the Ethics Committee at the Ministry of Health of Russia.
